Star Trek: Discovery, The Spy, Mulan, and other films and television shows have made recent film, TV series, and TV mini-series casting, screenwriting, and director news. These films come from movie studios primarily based in the United States and abroad. The castings, screenwriters, and directors are subject to change.


Donnie Yen has been cast as Commander Tung, who eventually becomes the mentor of Mulan.

Yen joins already cast Liu Yifei.

Mulan was written by Lauren Hynek, Rick Jaffa, Elizabeth Martin, Amanda Silver, and will be directed Niki Caro.

Mulan‘s plot synopsis: based on the Chinese legend of Hua Mulan, “a young woman who posed as a man to go to war in her father’s place.”

Mulan will be released in U.S. theaters through Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures on March 27, 2020.

Normal People

Liam Neeson and Lesley Manville have been cast as “Tom and Joan, a married couple with an easy relationship and a depth of love which expresses itself through tenderness and humor. When Joan is diagnosed with breast cancer, the course of her treatment shines a light on their relationship as the pair face the challenges that lie ahead and the prospect of what might happen in the future.”

Normal People was written by Owen McCafferty and will be directed by Glenn Leyburn and Lisa Barros D’Sa.

The Spy (Netflix)

Sacha Baron Cohen has been cast, “a spy for Israel in Syria in the early 1960s. Cohen managed to embed himself into Syrian high society and rise through the ranks of their politics. His actions, connections, ultimately his death have had lasting consequences, shaping the Middle East as it is today.”

The limited TV series (Mini-series) The Spy will be written and directed by Gideon Raff.

Star Trek: Discovery (Paramount Network)

Anson Mount has been cast as Captain Christopher Pike, captain of the U.S.S. Enterprise before James T. Kirk.

Tig Notaro has been cast as Denise Reno, Chief Engineer of the U.S.S. Hiawatha.
