THE FLASH (2018): Rick Famuyiwa Leaves Film as Director

The Flash Loses Director Rick Famuyiwa As Film Gets Delayed

The Flash has lost a director as Rick Famuyiwa has left the project, leaving Warner Bros. on another halt to start the film. Famuyiwa is the second director to have left filming The Flash’s first solo outing after Seth Grahame-Smith previously left the project last April.

The Hollywood Reporter first broke the news about the DOPE director leaving The Flash feature film over creative differences. This comes as a shock as the director has been attached to the film since June. Famuyiwa was in the pre-production stages as the film already cast both Kiersey Clemons and Billy Crudup as Iris West and Henry Allen, respectively. According to the report, the director wanted to make the film edgier, but the studio became strict on it. It shouldn’t be that much of a blow since the studio’s last two edgier superhero films didn’t perform well in the box office.

After the announcement, Famuyiwa made this statement:

When I was approached by Warner Bros and DC about the possibility of directing The Flash, I was excited about the opportunity to enter this amazing world of characters that I loved growing up, and still do to this day.

I was also excited to work with Ezra Miller, who is a phenomenal young actor. I pitched a version of the film in line with my voice, humor, and heart. While it’s disappointing that we couldn’t come together creatively on the project, I remain grateful for the opportunity. I will continue to look for opportunities to tell stories that speak to a fresh generational, topical, and multicultural point of view. I wish Warner Brothers, DC, Jon Berg, Geoff Johns, and Ezra Miller all the best as they continue their journey into the speed force.

This is really sad for fans, as the studio might not make it to the March 2017 date to start production without a director. This probably would mean that the release date of March 16, 2018 might get pushed to an undetermined date to give the studio more time to find a replacement. Are you guys sad that The Flash has lost another director?
