The Flash, Supergirl, Arrow, Legends of Tomorrow, and More The CW TV shows Renewed for 2017-2018

The Flash, Supergirl, Arrow, Legends of Tomorrow, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, Jane the Virgin, and Supernatural have all been renewed by The CW for the 2017-2018 television season. This announcement was made today at the Television Critics Association Press Tour in Pasadena, California by The CW president Mark Pedowitz.

These renewals come as no surprise. All of these TV series receive steady ratings and a few, like Crazy Ex-Girlfriend and Jane the Virgin, are critically acclaimed. This announcement will continue all of the current actor and behind-the-scenes personnel’s contracts. The renewal gives all of them peace of mind and the ability to set-up the appropriate plans  – writing scripts, etc. – for the upcoming seasons.

The mid-season premieres for The CW TV shows have not begun yet. What has premiered are: the trailers for these television shows, images for them, and their plot synopses.

Missing from these renewals were: The 100, iZombie, The Originals, The Vampire Diaries, Frequency, and No Tomorrow.

The 100 and The Vampire Diaries not being amongst the renewals were big surprises. The 100 is one of the best original TV shows on The CW next to Arrow. My guess is that The CW is waiting to see the ratings for upcoming seasons of the other midseason TV shows that will be premiering soon.

That is the smart play. Why renew TV shows without knowing first if they have retained their audiences from last season? Perhaps part or all of those audiences have moved on. The ratings in the next few months will let The CW TV executives know. Following the first few episodes of each midseason series, more renewal or cancellation news by The CW should be released.
