The Foreigner Trailer

Martin Campbell‘s The Foreigner (2017) movie trailer stars Jackie Chan, Pierce Brosnan, Charlie Murphy, Katie Leung, and Michael McElhatton. The Foreigner‘s ploy synopsis: based on the book by Stephen Leather, “The film tells the story of humble London businessman Quan (Chan), whose long-buried past erupts in a revenge-fueled vendetta when the only person left for him to love — his teenage daughter — is taken from him in a senseless act of politically-motivated terrorism.

In his relentless search for the identity of the terrorists, Quan is forced into a cat- and-mouse conflict with a British government official (Brosnan), whose own past may hold clues to the identities of the elusive killers.”

As I watch this trailer, I immediately thought of the the Arnold Schwarzenegger film Collateral Damage. The Foreigner even follows some of the beats of Collateral Damage before it diverges and becomes, what looks like, a far better film. I love the fact that like Bryan Mills in Taken, Quan Ngoc Minh (Jackie Chan) uses his previous “special set of skills” against those that did something to his daughter. In Quan’s case, he can’t find the killers but he finds someone who might know who they are. Quan using his skills against that person, in its execution, is a pretty clever plot point.

I enjoyed seeing that Jackie Chan still does some of his own stunts, especially the closed-quarters combat in The Foreigner.

Martin Campbell is an excellent director and it really shows throughout this trailer. Campbell directed my second favorite James Bond film, Casino Royale, and my third favorite Bond film, Goldeneye.

The Foreigner also stars Orla Brady, Rory Fleck Byrne, Simon Kunz, Pippa Bennett-Warner, Stephen Hogan, Dermot Crowley, Dermot Crowley, Roberta Taylor, Bern Collaco, Mark Tandy, Lasco Atkins, and Dilyana Bouklieva.
