GAMBIT: X-MEN Producer Reveals Status on Film Development

Gambit Development Update

Gambit Gets a Status Update on Development

It’s been a while since we heard anything on the development of the upcoming X-Men spin-off film based on Gambit. Since then, 20th Century Fox has been so busy with its other projects like Deadpool 2, New Mutants, and X-Men: Dark Phoenix. So what about Gambit?

Gambit has been a popular character of the X-Men since it’s inception in the late 80s and early 90s. After a dreaded debut in live-action with X-Men Origins: Wolverine, the studio decided to take another crack at the character. This started years of development to put the character’s first solo film up on the big screen. The project had some difficulty taking off, including the departures of directors Rupert Wyatt and Doug Liman. The studio is already focusing on their other X-Men property, so where does that leave Gambit?

ScreenRant recently spoke with producer Hutch Parker on the film’s status and said Gambit is still very much in the cards. “It is. It is [still part of our plans]. I don’t have any news on that but there’s still a desire and a passionate interest to see that movie made.”

In another interview, Doug Liman told IGN that Gambit had some problems with the crowded superhero genre taking over the box office but knows that producer Simon Kinberg is still very invested in the movie.

You know, it’s a crowded field of superhero films so the challenge for Gambit or any of those other movies is finding its unique space and it’s unique take.  But, yeah, I think Simon Kinberg, who is producing it, is a great producer and he’ll create something great out of it.
