Game of Thrones Season 5 Episodes 1-4 Leaked Online. The first four episodes of HBO‘s Game of Thrones: Season 5 have been leaked. The four episodes leaked before the first episode of the Season 5, The Wars to Come, aired last night. The leak appears to have originated for screeners that the American premium cable and satellite television network mailed out to select TV critics weeks ago. The leaked episode have their inserted watermark blurred out so the person they were sent to can’t be identified.

On a pirated material website, the first episode currently has over 100K people “seeding” (people letting others download the episode data off of their hard drive) the episode, over 31K people “seeding” the second episode, over 84K people “seeding” the third episode, and over 76K people “seeding” the forth episode.

HBO released this statement about the incident:

Sadly, it seems the leaked four episodes of the upcoming season of Game of Thrones originated from within a group approved by HBO to receive them. We’re actively assessing how this breach occurred.

I feel for HBO. On the chusp of another season of high ratings and critical acclaim, this happens (coupled with fact that they just rolled out new streaming service). Its the latest in a long-line of leaks of copyrighted material onto the Internet with no end in sight.

Whom I really feel sorry for because of this fiasco are the TV critics. HBO is already restrict with whom they send out screeners to. After this, that exclusive list is going to get much smaller. Less critics will have the opportunity to write and edit their reviews in advance of an episode’s premiere. Its sad but that is what will happen.
