GAME OF THRONES: Series Crashes New York for Home Release of Season Five [HBO]

Game of Thrones Union Square Wreckage

Game of Thrones Promotes Home Release of Fifth Season in New York. Game of Thrones’ fifth season just dropped on Blu-ray this week, and a dragon has escaped from Westeros and crash-landed in New York. Don’t worry, it’s all part of HBO’s promotion celebrating it’s home release.

Promotion began Tuesday morning at Union Square, where visitors witnessed a landing site with small dragon prints on the pavement surrounded by some wreckage. There was some rubble, broken benches and light posts, and even some smoke coming out of the crash site. Looking at all this damage, it just proves just how powerful these dragons from Westeros really are, even if they try to make a harmless landing on our streets.

Later in the evening, HBO brought New Yorkers to Herald Square where some lucky fans got a chance to take home a Blu-ray of Game of Thrones’ fifth season. Series writer Dave Hill greeted fans as he introduced fans to a screening of ‘Dance of Dragons’, a 20-minute animated featurette showing the Targaryen civil war that resulted in their downfall 100 years before the start of the series. The special was narrated by some notable characters from the series, showing how the Targaryens ruled the Seven Kingdoms with their dragons and their fall from power. During the outdoor event, fans were also greeted by a surprise special guest, who was none other than Liam Cunningham, known for his role as Ser Davos in the series. The event ended with a projection of a dragon flying across buildings in Herald Square. Fans can also get to see the dragon flying around the city in places like the HBO office building or the New Public Library.
