Ghost in the Shell Trailer 3

The third and final movie trailer for Rupert SandersGhost in the Shell (2017) has been released by Paramount Pictures. The last movie trailer for Ghost in the Shell gives away a lot more of the film than I believe that it should. From what is shown, the hacker Puppet Master plot of the original anime film seems to be gone, replaced with something more digestible by the cognitively challenged or so writers Jamie Moss and William Wheeler perceived with their script.

In lieu of the complicated, cerebral original plotline, it seems a secret experimentation, control, and possible take-over plotline has been but in its place. With that switch, at least fans of the original 1995 film are going to see something new.

I personally do not like the change. I didn’t want the plot made ordinary or familiar. I like my science fiction cerebral and complex, like Blade Runner (without the voice over).

There is also a preponderance of scenes in this trailer in which The Major (Scarlett Johansson) is disrobing to reveal her robo synthetic skin covering. I am not complaining. It is just noticeable.

One of the most fleeting moments of the trailer was the most iconic: The Major on top of the robo tank, trying to rip off its lid. Will that maneuver result in the same catastrophic damage? We will have to wait and see.

Ghost in the Shell‘s plot synopsis: based on the manga by Masamune Shirow and its anime adaptation by Mamoru Oshii, “‘GHOST IN THE SHELL’ follows the Major, a special ops, one-of-a-kind human-cyborg hybrid, who leads the elite task force Section 9. Devoted to stopping the most dangerous criminals and extremists, Section 9 is faced with an enemy whose singular goal is to wipe out Hanka Robotic’s advancements in cyber technology.”

Rupert SandersGhost in the Shell also stars Michael Pitt, Michael Wincott, Joseph Naufahu, Chris Obi, Chin Han, Peter Ferdinando, Kaori Momoi, Danusia Samal, Takeshi Kitano, Pilou Asbæk, Rila Fukushima, Juliette Binoche, Tawanda Manyimo, and Yutaka Izumihara.
