Gina Carano cast in Female THE EXPENDABLES Film

Ewan McGregor, Gina Carano, Beach Fight, Haywire, 03

Gina Carano cast in female The Expendables. The casting of Gina Carano in a female The Expendables film  – produced by Adi Shankar and written by Dutch Southern – answers the question of whether or not the new action heroine would appear in the proposed film. “‘The Female Expendables.’…project…will be produced by Adi Shankar‘s company 1984 Private Defense Contrators [and] came together last month after the successful opening of The Expendables 2.”

On Gina Carano’s casting in the film  by Adi Shankar:

“I don’t know how I’m supposed to make a movie that is supposed to be the female version of ‘The Expendables’ without Gina Carano in it. It would be like making Twix without caramel or Jamba Juice without jamba,” said Shankar, whose shingle recently co-produced Joe Carnahan’s “The Grey,” Pete Travis’ “Dredd 3D,” Andrew Dominik’s upcoming Brad Pitt-starrer “Killing Them Softly” and the viral Internet hit “The Punisher: Dirty Laundry,” starring Thomas Jane.

Another factor on why this film is moving forward now:

This has been a banner year for female-driven actioners like “The Hunger Games,” “Snow White and the Huntsman” and “Resident Evil: Retribution,” which respectively starred Jennifer Lawrence, Kristen Stewart and Milla Jovovich.

Possible other action heroines in the film include Linda Hamilton, Sigourney Weaver, Jamie Lee Curtis, Lucy Lawless, and Cynthia Rothrock. With “Carano now attached, it’s possible the film is ignoring the “old-school” aspect of The Expendables and instead focusing the idea of a team alone. If age isn’t a factor, the list gets very crowded very quickly: Ali Larter, Lucy Liu, Sarah Michelle Geller, Milla Jovovich and Kate Beckinsale for example.”

Gina Carano will also be appearing in Justin Lin’s The Fast and the Furious 6 and John Stockwell’s In the Blood.
