Zhang Ziyi Joins The Cast Of Godzilla: King Of The Monsters

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon actress Zhang Ziyi will play a role in the planned monster movie follow-up Godzilla: King of the Monsters.

Regarded as one of the most recognizable Chinese actresses to Western audiences, Ziyi got her start acting for film in the critically-acclaimed drama The Road Home. She followed this up with the wildly successful Tiger and then made her first foray into Western cinema with Rush Hour 2. Other noteworthy credits for Ziyi are House of Flying Daggers, Memoirs of a Geisha, and TMNT. Most recently, she appeared in the soon-to-be-released God Particle.

Reportedly, Ziyi will play a character involved with the growing series’ Monarch organization. Other actors set to star in the upcoming Godzilla sequel are Kyle Chandler, Vera Farmiga, Millie Bobby Brown, Bradley Whitford, and Charles Dance, with Ken Watanabe returning to his role from the first film.

Dougherty is also writing King of the Monsters with Zach Shields. Legendary previously announced the addition of several more famous Toho kaiju, including Rodan, Mothra, and King Ghidorah.

King of the Monsters is part of the Legendary and Warner Bros. cinematic MonsterVerse, which includes, in addition to Godzilla and the recent Kong: Skull Island, the upcoming Godzilla vs Kong feature film, set for a May 22, 2020 release.
