Golden Globe Awards 2016: Nominations: CAROL, NARCOS, OUTLANDER

Golden Globes Awards Logo

Carol, Narcos, Outlander, and the other nominations of the 2016 Golden Globe Awards have been announced. The 73rd Annual Golden Globe Awards “are presented annually by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) to recognize outstanding achievements in the entertainment industry, both domestic and foreign, and to focus wide public attention upon the best in motion pictures and television.”

Carol is becoming a major contender for best picture Oscar. When I saw Mad Max: Fury Road in the Best Motion Picture category, I cheered in my head. Seeing an action movie do this well shows how well put together the film – not a popcorn movie – actually was when it was completed. I hope this positive awards trend for Fury Road continues.

The Revenant continues to push forward, possibly towards Leonardo DiCaprio‘s first major awards win while Alicia Vikander racked up Golden Globe nominations, one for Ex Machina and the other for The Danish Girl.

Streaming services are catching up to premium cable television and commercial broadcast television network when it comes to producing possibly award-winning television. For example, Netflix received eight nominations and Amazon received five while  HBO received seven nominations, and Starz received six nominations.
