GOOSEBUMPS (2015) Movie Trailer: Jack Black is R.L. Stine

Goosebumps Trailer

Goosebumps Movie Trailer. Rob Letterman‘s Goosebumps (2015) movie trailer stars Jack Black, Halston Sage, Dylan Minnette, and Amy Ryan. Goosebumps‘ plot synopsis: “A young kid teams up with the niece of young adult horror author R.L. Stine after the writer’s imaginary demons are set free on the town of Greendale, Maryland.”

Like many kids of my generation, the Goosebumps books were a nice introduction to reading things I actually enjoyed. They were pulpy paperbacks that captured the imagination, safeguarding me from issues at home or simply passing the time at school quicker than usual. I still remember various covers, such as that gigantic shark rising from the deep toward an unsuspecting swimmer’s diving fins. I loved these books, and I managed to stack up quite a collection.

This trailer, unfortunately, looks horrible. Once again, it seems, they’ve purchased the intellectual property rights to something simple and effective, and turned it into a schlocky, highly CGI infested, badly comedic family film. There is nothing in this trailer that signifies fear or actual, believable danger. Do you think any character in this trailer will actually die, or be in any real, grave danger? I don’t. It looks safe, it looks expensive, and I have no interest in it. I’m sure the six years olds will love it, though.

I wish we could go back to real, actually scary horror. And that doesn’t mean children can’t enjoy it, by the way – on the contrary, the simplest horror works for all ages (think PsychoJawsThe Blair Witch Project). Goosebumps would’ve been the perfect IP to use for a classic, fairy-tale-esque, children’s horror film. But now, let’s make a shiny disney ride, instead!

Oh well. On we march.

Goosebumps also stars Odeya Rush, Ken Marino, Kumail Nanjiani, Jillian Bell, Jared Sandler, Ella Wahlestedt, Ryan Lee, Timothy Simons, Amanda Lund, Steven Krueger, and Karan Soni.

I grew up in Hamburg to a German father and Ecuadorian mother. Obsessive student of film, Hip-Hop, and stand-up comedy. I love the dark dreambox that is the cinema auditorium. I love mountains and the ocean, but am equally exhilarated by the jungle of the city. I hope to one day create something that hits someone in the brain with thunderous effect.
