GOTHAM: New Pilot Primer Promo TV Show Clips [FOX]

Donal Logue Gotham

Fox releases six last minute clips ahead of Gotham pilot. With Gotham set to debut, this week, Fox Television has taken the time to court viewer consideration, one last time, with no less than six all new clips. Tell you what, play/ edit together all of the promos released, since the Gotham media blitz began, and try to determine how much of the pilot will be completely new to you.

A lot of ground is covered, in a relatively linear manner; and while it’s still too early to tell just how much – if any – of the pilot is really being given away with these, they do frame something of a narrative.

Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie) is clearly too much of a boy scout (ie. future whistle blower) for Harvey Bullock (Donal Logue), but his record & name makes his assignment stick. The Training Day session derails immediately, when they wind up being the first detectives to arrive at the murder scene of Thomas & Martha Wayne, and Gordon takes to reassuring the surviving witness, Bruce Wayne (David Mazouz). As much as Bullock wants to avoid the pressures of solving this very high profile case, his resentment towards a rival team, from another division, helps ensure he & Gordon hold on to it. Gordon, however, has some self-doubts about the promises he made to young Bruce.

The case takes Gordon & Bullock to one Fish Mooney (Jada Pinkett Smith), just as she was impressing on a wayward employee the importance of showing Fish the money. While she welcomes Bullock, and sizes up Gordon, her Man Friday, Oswald Cobblepot (Robin Lord Taylor), gets to see how “the other half lives,” regarding his more hands on colleagues, and their taking up where Mooney left off. If Mooney didn’t get a clear enough picture of Gordon, from that first meeting, Gordon certainly left his mark with a return visit to see her, unescorted. Unfortunately, that impression might mean stitches for Gordon. Never mind the combat veteran cred, never turn your back on a street level lady boss, Jim.

There will be more to the pilot, to be sure. I’m just curious to see how much of it has already been covered by the promotional campaign; and just where these latest clips fit into the complete narrative of the episode.

Gotham also features Sean Pertwee, Erin Richards, Zabryna Guevara, Camren Bicondova, Cory Michael Smith, Victoria Cartagena, Andrew Steward Jones, and Clare Foley. The series premiere of Gotham airs Monday, Sept. 22 (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX.
