GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY (2014): Vin Diesel Hints at Groot Role in Film

Vin Diesel may voice Groot in Guardians of The Galaxy. Vin Diesel posted an image to his Facebook page of the character ‘Groot’ of the Marvel Universe, one of the central characters of Guardians Of The Galaxy (2014). Diesel adds fuel to the fire, further hinting he will be have a voice role in the Guardians film as Groot, a plant monster who resembles a tree and is seemingly the last of his race. He joins the ensemble cast for the Marvel Universe super hero film.

Groot can absorb wood as food, with the ability to rebuild himself and enhance his strength. He can control trees, using them to attack others, and also appears to be resistant to fire. He is able to sprout, dramatically increasing his mass but also severely inhibiting his movement.

Deadline originally broke the news that Vin Diesel was in talks to join Guardians of The Galaxy. Diesel is the latest addition of next year’s superhero cast which already includes Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Lee Pace, Michael Rooker, Karen Gillan, Djimon Hounsou, Benicio Del Toro, John C. Reilly, Glenn Close, Ophelia Lovibond, and Peter Serafinowicz. While it is not officially confirmed, Diesel posting the picture as further pushed fans to believe the actor will take on the role.

Principal photography is underway in London and the movie is set to open August 1st of 2014. The film will be released in 3D. James Gunn both wrote and directs the superhero ensemble film. Kevin Feige is producing. Gunn most recently directed Movie 43.

Vin Diesel is not new to the voice acting world. The actor lent his voice to the title character in Brad Bird’s The Iron Giant. His next film, Riddick, will open September 6h. The third installment in The Chronicles of Riddick film series (Pitch Black, The Chronicles of Riddick), Riddick fights for survival against alien predators and becomes more powerful and dangerous than ever before.
