HAEMOO: Bong Joon-ho Producing Shim Sung-bo Shipwreck Film [AFM 2013]

Bong Joon-ho is Executive Producing Haemoo. Director Bong Joon-ho is executive producing fellow director’s Shim Sung-bo (Sim Seong-bo) film Haemoo aka Sea Fog. This film will be “pitched for pre-sales at next week’s American Film Market” and is Sung-bo’s directorial debut. Sung-bo helped co-write Bong Joon-ho’s Memories of Murder. The film stars Park Yu-chun, Kim Yoon-sok (Kim Yoon-seok), Jeong Yu-mi, Moon Seong-geunHan Ye-ri and Micky Yoochun.

Based on real events and adapted from a theater production, ‘Haemoo’ tells the story of young crewman who tries to save a female immigrant being smuggled across the border when their fishing boat has an accident. The film’s sales company Finecut pitches it as an ‘ultimate thriller that penetrates basic human nature with a story of sad romance.’

On Haemoo‘s budget and the people behind the scenes:

Made on a production budget of $6 million the film boasts ‘Snowpiercer’ cinematographer Alex Hong, ‘The Thieves’ production designer Lee Ha-jun and ‘G.I. Joe 2’ martial arts coordinator Jung Doo-hong.

[The film will be] released in Korea by investor-distributor Next Entertainment World in spring 2014.
