AMC‘s Fear The Walking Dead Cobalt. Hear The Walking Dead: The Fear The Walking Dead Podcast: Season 1, Episode 5: Cobalt is an audio podcast review in which FilmBook contributor Steven Bueno and his team (Cornell Montgomery, and Joshua Grijalva) discuss their thoughts on the latest episode of AMC’s Fear The Walking Dead. Fear The Walking Dead: Season 1, Episode 5: Cobalt‘s plot synopsis (spoilers): “At a quarantine camp, Doug is psychologically tormented by one of his cellmates. Doug breaks down and is taken away by the guards. When the army decides to take Nick away due to his withdrawal symptoms, the man trades his cufflinks to the soldiers in return for sparing Nick. The man reveals that he has an escape plan, and that he needs Nick’s help. At the hospital, Liza assists Dr. Exner with patients. However, Griselda’s condition worsens, and she dies of septic shock. Liza shoots Griselda in the head to prevent her from reanimating. Back at the safe zone, Ofelia protests against the military occupation of the neighborhood, demanding that she know what happened to her mother. Corporal Adams intervenes to prevent her from being taken away. Chris meanwhile is hurt and confused over why Liza voluntarily left with the military, and Travis promises to bring her back. Madison goes into the Trans’ basement to find out that Daniel and Ofelia have kidnapped Corporal Adams. Unknown to Ofelia, Daniel tortures Adams for information, asking him what the callsign “Cobalt” means. Alicia and Chris bond when they fool around in, and later vandalize, an abandoned house. Travis talks with Lieutenant Moyers, who eventually agrees to take him to the hospital to ensure the people who have been taken away are well. While on the way to the hospital, Moyers tries to encourage Travis to shoot a walker, but Travis cannot bring himself to do it, believing walkers are still human. They then stop to assist another squad in assaulting a building infested with walkers. However, the assault goes poorly, and the surviving troops flee, taking Travis back to the safe zone. Travis finds out about Daniel’s torture of Adams and barges in, where he finds out “Cobalt” is code for the evacuation of all military forces from Los Angeles, with uninfected civilians being “humanely” terminated, and that Cobalt is due to be initiated the next morning. Daniel then goes to a nearby sports arena that was another safe zone Adams had previously guarded, and is shocked when he finds the arena abandoned, sealed, and infested with walkers.”
