Theodore Melfi‘s Hidden Figures (2017) movie trailer and movie poster star Taraji P. Henson, Octavia Spencer, Janelle Monáe, Kevin Costner, and Kirsten Dunst. Hidden Figures‘ plot synopsis: based on the book by Margot Lee Shetterly, “As the United States raced against Russia to put a man in space, NASA found untapped talent in a group of African-American female mathematicians that served as the brains behind one of the greatest operations in U.S. history. Based on the unbelievably true life stories of three of these women, known as “human computers”, we follow these women as they quickly rose the ranks of NASA alongside many of history’s greatest minds specifically tasked with calculating the momentous launch of astronaut John Glenn into orbit, and guaranteeing his safe return.

Katherine G. Johnson (Taraji P. Henson), Dorothy Vaughan (Octavia Spencer), and Mary Jackson (Janelle Monáe) crossed all gender, race, and professional lines while their brilliance and desire to dream big, beyond anything ever accomplished before by the human race, firmly cemented them in U.S. history as true American heroes.”

Is it just me or was The Help referenced numerous times in this trailer? I liked this trailer the moment I began watching it. It seems like Hidden Figures is a mixture of many different films but blended in a satisfactory way. There is some A Beautiful Mind in there with a couple of dashes of The Martian. The three female leads are usually the smartest people in the room, one step of ahead of racist remarks, bigotry, and misogyny.

Hidden Figures‘ also stars Jim Parsons, Mahershala Ali, Aldis Hodge, Glen Powell, Kimberly Quinn, Olek Krupa, Ariana Neal, and Saniyya Sidney.
