Home Entertainment News: June 18, 2013: THE BIG WEDDING + EMPIRE STATE

Lionsgate Home Entertainment will release the Justin Zackham comedy The Big Wedding on August 13, 2013. The ensemble stars Robert DeNiro, Katherine Heigl, Diane Keaton, Susan Sarandon, and Robin Williams. Divorced couple Don (DeNiro) and Ellie (Keaton) are forced to pretend to be happily married when their adopted son’s birth mother unexpectedly flies halfway around the world for the big event. Comedy ensues as everyone except her is in on the big secret that Don and Ellie can’t stand each other.

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson adds another action movie to the shelves on September 3, 2013 with the release of Empire State (2013). Director Dito Monteil‘s film follows two childhood friends who plan to rob an armored car. Planned special features include a behind-the-scenes look, deleted scenes, and director’s audio commentary.

Anchor Bay Home Entertainment and The Weinstein Company will release Wayne Blair‘s The Sapphires (2012) on August 6, 2013. The film stars Deborah Mailman, Jessica Mauboy, Miranda Tapsell, and Shari Sebbens as four Australian Aboriginal women who set out to make a career singing for the U.S. Military troops in Vietnam. With the help of their R & B-loving Irish manager Dave (Chris O’Dowd), they manage to become unlikely stars in this feel-good film based on a true story.

Mickey Rourke returns with the IFC Films and MPI Media Group crime drama Java Heat (2013). Rourke takes a turn as the villain in an Indonesian terrorist attack. Amidst the turmoil, a young girl is kidnapped. A rough American must ally with an Indonesian detective to find her. The film also stars Kellan Lutz and Ario Bayu and hits the shelves September 17, 2013.

IFC Films and MPI Media Group will also pair up to release Danny Mooney‘s Love and Honor on DVD and Blu-ray July 23, 2013. Young soldiers Dalton (Austin Stowell) and Mickey (Liam Hemsworth) hatch a plan to sneak out of Vietnam on leave and travel stateside to convince Dalton’s girlfriend Jane (Aimee Teegarden) to change her mind about dumping him. Upon arrival they find Jane and her friend are deep in the anti-war movement forcing all parties to make some hard choices about love and honor.

Anchor Bay Entertainment and Dimension Films will street the fifth installment in the Scary Movie franchise with Scary Movie 5 on August 20, 2013. The comedy stars Ashley Tisdale, Simon Rex, Erica Ash, Molly Shannon, Heather Locklear, J.P. Manoux, Jerry O’Connell, Charlie Sheen, and Lindsay Lohan.
