Home Entertainment News: November 11, 2013: ENDER’S GAME, PRISONERS

Asa Butterfield Ender's Game

Momentum Pictures and Entertainment One have announced official plans to bring director Gavin Hood’s sleeper hit Ender’s Game (2013) to home theaters February 17, 2014. The film stars Harrison Ford, Asa Butterfield, Hailee Steinfeld, Ben Kingsley, Viola Davis, and Abigail Breslin. Butterfield stars as Ender, an exceptional youth recruited by the International Starfleet to head a child dream team of Earth’s most intelligent and talented youth. It quickly becomes clear Ender’s talents may even surpass even those of the legendary Mazer Rackham (Kingsley). With the possibility of the alien Formics attacking Earth at some point in the near future, Starfleet hopes to train this group to lead a last stand to save their world from destruction.

Denis Villeneuve’s  Prisoners is set to hit the shelves on December 17, 2013, in time for Christmas. The taut thriller stars Hugh Jackman, Viola Davis, Maria Bello, Jake Gyllenhaal, Paul Dano, Melissa Leo, and  Terrence Howard.  Jackman is Keller Dover, a deeply religious carpenter who takes his family to visit his neighbors the Birches (Davis and Howard) for Thanksgiving dinner. Their daughters go outside to play after the meal, but soon go missing. The police immediately question and release a suspect for lack of evidence. Keller decides to kidnap and torture the man in order to extract information on their daughters’ whereabouts. The distributor has announced two special features to accompany the theatrical release: Prisoners: Every Moment Matters where Jackman and Gyllenhaal explore the tense relationship between their characters Keller and Loki (the detective on the case) and Prisoners: Powerful Performances which explores the entire cast.
