Thoughts on This Week’s In-home Releases

A couple of 2018 films lead a relatively slow week for in-home releases. We begin with Warner Bros. 12 Strong. Starring Chris Hemsworth, Michael Shannon, and Michael Pena, the film tells the true story of the first Special Forces team deployed to Afghanistan after 9/11; the team must work with an Afghan warlord to take down the Taliban. It was a mild success with audiences, grossing $62 million worldwide. If you are a fan of the war genre this is definitely worth a look at buying or renting as it boasts good performances and a gripping story.

The next film is the animated family comedy Peter Rabbit. A Feature adaptation of Beatrix Potter’s classic tale of a rebellious rabbit trying to sneak into a farmer’s vegetable garden, the film was a massive success at the box office, grossing $320 million worldwide against a $50 million production budget. I have not seen the film, but critics and kids seemed to enjoy it.

Finally, a couple of older films are getting the Blu-ray treatment courtesy of Kino Lorber. These are Mafia! and Blaze.
