House of Cards Ending After Season 6 Following Kevin Spacey Allegations

Netflix TV series House of Cards will end after its upcoming sixth season. Following sexual allegations by Star Trek: Discovery‘s Anthony Rapp against House of CardsKevin Spacey (his response), Netflix has decided that the upcoming season will be the last season for political drama TV season.

Since the Harvey Weinstein revelations began and continue to come to light, so have other allegations against many different people in numerous fields of business. The latest in the entertainment world is Kevin Spacey. The latest collateral damage in the entertainment world, besides the physical and mental well-being of Anthony Rapp, is House of Cards.

The cancellation of House of Cards was unwelcome news for fans of the series but it was also not unexpected. No one wants any part of the firestorm that has engulfed Hollywood and the news media since Harvey Weinstein was allegedly outed by his alleged victims. No one wants to be seen as doing business with, looking the other way on, or harboring someone that conducts sexual misconduct or assaults.

That is how the intrepid knew that as soon as the Anthony Rapp / Kevin Spacey news broke, House of Cards was a goner – unless its producers killed off Kevin Spacey’s character, former United States President Francis Underwood. Since House of Cards is built around Spacey’s character, the scripts for the new season were already written, and production on the new season had already begun, that step could not be taken. The ax was the next and inescapable choice.

The people behind-the-scenes of House of Cards: Season 5 included:

Melissa James Gibson and Frank Pugliese [as its] showrunners…[and] executive producers along with David Fincher, John Mankiewicz, Daniel Minahan, Kevin Spacey, Joshua Donen, Dana Brunetti, Eric Roth, Robin Wright, Michael Dobbs and Andrew Davies. [House of Cards was created] for television by Beau Willimon.

House of Cards is produced by Donen/Fincher/Roth and Trigger Street Productions, Inc. in association with Media Rights Capital for Netflix.

Along with Spacey, House of Cards: Season 5 also starred Robin Wright, Michael Kelly, Jayne Atkinson, Joel Kinnaman, Neve Campbell, Derek Cecil, Paul Sparks, Boris McGiver, and Dominique McElligott.

House of Cards: Season 6 has no official premiere date yet on Netflix.
