Iron Fist’s First Season Won’t Feature Shou-Lao

With fans disappointed that we won’t be seeing Danny Rand in costume for Iron Fist may get some more bad news. Actor Finn Jones has just confirmed that Shou-Lao, the dragon that Danny gets his powers from won’t appear in the first season, but we may get hits of his nemesis Steel Serpent.

It was already revealed that Danny Rand won’t be wearing his iconic costume in the first season of the Netflix series, but even more disappointing news about Marvel’s last Defender has come out. Comic book fans may know that the martial artist gains his powers by plunging his fist into the heart of Shou-Lao, a powerful dragon he must fight while training in the hidden city of K’un-Lun.

Chatting with Yahoo News, star Finn Jones said that budgetary issues are the cause for not being able to shoot the CGI creature, which may mean we won’t be seeing much of K’un-Lun either. “I’d love to have the budget for these shows to have a full-on Game of Thrones style dragon,” the actor of the HBO series said. “But unfortunately you know, we have budget restraints. That’s the nature of the show. We do allude to it in Iron Fist, in a very intelligent way. And definitely in The Defenders… but I think, you know, we’ve got to be realistic.”

Coming out of that disappointing news, there was something good that came out of it. In another interview with Yahoo, Jones revealed that an important character may appear in the second half of the first season. That character teased was none other than Steel Serpent. “Maybe that’s what we were just errr… My publicist is looking at me with devil eyes,” the actor laughed. “Hey look, that’s going to be announced very soon so I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s announced before these [interviews] even come to print.”

Here’s hoping we get to see that happen after those critical reviews from the first six episodes complaining about the slow pacing and lack of action. What do you guys think?
