It Comes At Night Trailer 3
Trey Edward Shults‘ It Comes At Night (2017) movie trailer 3 stars Joel Edgerton, Riley Keough, Carmen Ejogo, David Pendleton, and Christopher Abbott. It Comes At Night‘s plot synopsis: “IT COMES AT NIGHT, a horror film following a man (Joel Edgerton) as he is learns that the evil stalking his family home may be only a prelude to horrors that come from within. Secure within a desolate home as an unnatural threat terrorizes the world, the tenuous domestic order he has established with his wife and son is put to the ultimate test with the arrival of a desperate young family seeking refuge.
Despite the best intentions of both families, paranoia and mistrust boil over as the horrors outside creep ever-closer, awakening something hidden and monstrous within him as he learns that the protection of his family comes at the cost of his soul.”
I recently saw The Survivalist. I am also a fan of the film Cabin Fever and the television show The Walking Dead. It Comes At Night seems like a mixture of all three, with an emphasis on the first two.
Societal breakdown films come out all the time. Some are good e.g. the aforementioned The Survivalist and some are not e.g. The Book of Eli. It Comes At Night seems like the former where the threat to humanity is unidentified and ambiguous. The situations that the threat creates are the substance of the narrative i.e. man against man.
That atmosphere and that threat seem as though they are at the heart of It Comes At Night.
