J.A. Bayona directing Jurassic World 2. J.A. Bayona has been tapped as the director of the sequel to Jurassic World, the smash dino-film that reinvigorated a dead franchise. Derek Connelly and Colin Trevorrow (the director of the first Jurassic World film) are writing the script for Jurassic World 2. There is no word yet on what the new film will entail but you can bet it involves Dr. Henry Wu (BD Wong), as he absconded with genetic material at the end of Jurassic World on a helicopter. Crowd-favorites Owen (Chris Pratt) and Claire (Bryce Dallas Howard) have already been confirmed for the film but none of the other cast members from Jurassic World have been.
The aforementioned casting was a certainty. Producers Trevorrow, Steven Spielberg, Frank Marshall, Pat Crowley, and Belen Atienza wouldn’t want to mess with the part of the first film that made it work: Owen and Claire’s relationship foibles. Can a park or the park i.e Jurassic World be reintroduced in the sequel as an open-to-the-public institution? I don’t know. Would you send your child to an amusement park that resulted in the deaths of dozens of people, including the park’s owner?
I believe the local government and the world’s response those incidents at the park will appear at the beginning of Jurassic World 2 or be sprinkled throughout the sequel.
This is all speculation at the moment. There is no official word on any of the plot elements of the sequel.
The gross of Jurassic World played a big part in why the sequel was green-lit by Universal Pictures. Jurassic World was released on June 12, 2015 and brought in $652.2 million at the United States box office and $1.67 billion world-wide.
After that take, a sequel was inevitable.
