Set against the backdrop of Los Angeles in the wake of the verdict of the controversial Rodney King case, Craig and Berry respectively play a fictional man and single mother who find themselves forced to find the later’s children and get them to safety as the city erupts into chaos:
Kings isn’t the only LA riots movie currently in development. Broad Green Pictures is developing a feature written and directed by John Ridley, the Academy Award-winning 12 Years a Slave scribe. Fellow Academy Award winner Brian Grazer (A Beautiful Mind, American Gangster) is set to produce. There was also a report last year that Donovan Marsh was developing an LA riots movie titled April 29, 1992 (the date the riots began). Although it was rumored that the film would star Ice Cube and his son, O’Shea Jackson Jr., a statement released on behalf of Cube stressed that his involvement was far from a sure thing.
Although this LA riots movie will mark their first time starring together, Halle Berry and Daniel Craig did headline adjacent entries in the James Bond franchise. The Academy Award-winning actress played Jinx opposite Pierce Brosnan in 2002’s Die Another Day. Craig then took over the franchise in 2006’s Casino Royale.
