Based upon the acclaimed comic book and directed by Matthew Vaughn (Kick-Ass, X-Men: First Class), Kingsman: The Secret Service tells the story of a super-secret spy organization that recruits an unrefined but promising street kid into the agency’s ultra-competitive training program just as a global threat emerges from a twisted tech genius.

Having previously worked together, on Kick-Ass, director Vaughn and source writer Millar supposedly toyed with the idea of a tribute to/ send-up of the bygone era of Cold War espionage films.

Mathew Vaughn on The Secret Service:

“We missed all the spy movies we loved as kids, whether it was Bond or ‘In Like Flint.’ They had a sense of humor as well as being a thriller,” says Vaughn, who dreamed up the idea of Kingsman with Millar over what he calls a “few drunken conversations at the pub.” “With [Kingsman], we’re subversing the spy movie genre as we know it.”

The first official poster for Kingsman hints at the cover to Colin Firth’s character, but also highlights the almost stereotypically British quality of balancing gentlemanly fastidiousness with a proficiency for violence.

The trailer introduces Egerton as a talented delinquent, recruited by Jack Unwin (Firth), and introduced to the Kingsman order. It does succeed in invoking classics like Man from U.N.C.L.E., and The Avengers (the British TV series, not the horrible film adaptation, or the Marvel property), but by way of Men in Black and Wanted.

Kingsman: The Secret Service also stars Mark Strong, Sofia Boutella, and Jack Davenport, with appearances by Mark Hamill, Elton John, Adele, Lady Gaga, and David Beckham. It is scheduled for an October 24, 2014 release.
