Justin Lin and Machinima to Remake Knight Rider
Director Justin Lin, known for his work on The Fast and the Furious films and the recent Star Trek Beyond will be teaming up with Machinima to produce another show based on the famous Knight Rider series. More details are coming soon, but it looks like we may be in for a wild ride.
Justin Lin has been making headlines for revitalizing The Fast and the Furious franchise, so it makes sense that he would be involved in bringing back Knight Rider for a new generation. The series was recently brought back in 2008 with an attempted reboot of the popular 80s series that only lasted one season. There hasn’t been any casting news yet, but we can expect an announcement real soon, probably before the end of 2016.
According to Deadline, Machinima CEO Chad Gustein made the announcement in a press release for the upcoming digital series. Machinima will also be teaming up with YOMYOMF and NBCUniversal for the series. “Knight Rider is an iconic franchise whose concepts of AI and autonomous vehicles were science-fiction in the 1980s and are now science fact,” said Gutstein. “Justin is one of the leading storytellers of his generation and we couldn’t be more excited to work with him on re-invigorating Knight Rider for a new generation of fans.”
With another series, Machinima has proven to work on one of the best talents in the media business to produce some high-level content for a worldwide audience. Hopefully fans old and new will embrace the new version once it comes out. We should be seeing the series launch in 2017, but until then, leave us your thoughts on what you think.
