The first movie trailer for Lady Bird (2017) from A24.

Lady Bird plot synopsis from Indiewire:

The relationship comedy stars Ronan as Christine McPherson (Lady Bird, and no, no relationship with the wife of LBJ), a rebellious student at a conservative Catholic Sacramento high school who wants to escape her family and small town constraints to go to college in New York. The film is reportedly loosely based on Gerwig’s own experiences — the filmmaker and actress also grew up in Sacramento, where she attended Catholic school and set her sights on a life in New York City.

While I wouldn’t call it ambitious, I would definitely say that the trailer for Lady Bird is effective. Saoirse Ronan is unexpectedly funny as the title character, bringing an appropriate level of hostility to the role that really sells the whole high school bad girl thing. However, there is an awkwardness to her Lady Bird that makes us realize there is a softness behind the brash exterior, perhaps giving us a hint as to the plot’s trajectory.

At two minutes and 30 seconds, the promo is surprisingly long and reveals a lot about the movie, but it has enough going for it to make me interested in seeing it.

Greta Gerwig‘s Lady Bird (2017) stars Saoirse Ronan, Odeya Rush, Danielle Macdonald, Jordan Rodrigues, Laurie Metcalf, Kathryn Newton, Jake McDormanTimothee Chalamet, Laura Marano, Lois Smith, Lucas Hedges, Kristen Cloke, Andy Buckley, Tracy Letts, and Stephen Henderson.
