I have watched every season of The Leftovers and can not wait for the third and final season. The Leftovers is exceptional television. I could not believe some of the twists and turns that the TV show took during its first two seasons. From this trailer, Season 3 looks as though it contains more of the same.

The new trailer shows the viewer that some of the key new characters that made Season One and Two so special will appear in Season 3. For some of them, the viewer does have to ask themselves why? Why do some of these people migrate to Australia when they previously were happy in Miracle or other areas of the United States?

I am looking forward to those answers.

New story elements aside, what looks the same with Season 3 of The Leftovers is that people, even seven years later, are still dealing with The Departures. The realization that there is a God and/or a heaven had a profound effect on humanity.

Many would have thought that such a realization would have had a good effect but the reality is something far different.

Kevin Garvey (Justin Theroux) seems to gravitate to authoritarian roles. Maybe leadership is in his blood or all he has ever known. Either way, people look to him for support, guidance, and justice. That was made abundantly clear in this trailer. Gravey is once again a police officer but having come back from the dead twice, those closest to him see him as potentially something else.

The Leftovers: Season 3’s plot synopsis: based on the book by Tom Perrotta, “Kevin Garvey, a former sheriff haunted by doomsday visions,…now finds himself and his family in Australia where everyone is living with a constant fear that the world is about to end — which might not be far from the truth.”

The Leftovers: Season 3 also stars Joe Bunner, Kevin Carroll, Carrie Coon, Ellen Crouch, Mark Docherty, Cherif Gacis, Amy Brenneman, Christopher Eccleston, Tysan Towney, Jovan Adepo, Jasmin Savoy Brown,  Michael Gaston, Scott Glenn, and Dan Haberfield.
