Ben Affleck‘s Live by Night (2016) movie trailer stars Ben Affleck, Scott Eastwood, Elle Fanning, Zoe Saldana, and Sienna Miller. Live by Night‘s plot synopsis: based on the novel by Dennis Lehane, “Boston, MA – 1926. The ’20s are roaring. Liquor is flowing, bullets are flying, and one man sets out to make his mark on the world. Prohibition has given rise to an endless network of underground distilleries, speakeasies, gangsters, and corrupt cops. Joe Coughlin, the youngest son of a prominent Boston police captain, has long since turned his back on his strict and proper upbringing. Now having graduated from a childhood of petty theft to a career in the pay of the city’s most fearsome mobsters, Joe enjoys the spoils, thrills, and notoriety of being an outlaw. But life on the dark side carries a heavy price.”

Ben Affleck has a solid track record for picking great projects to either direct or direct and star in. Live by Night is the latter and it looks like his best film to date. It certainly looks like Ben Affleck’s most violent and expensive film. Movies about this era aren’t really known for their great car scenes (besides Boardwalk Empire) but Affleck seems to have created one. Ben Affleck has wanted to make a film based on this Lehane book for sometime. I am glad he was given the opportunity to do so.

Dennis Lehane‘s novels have had a fantastic track record when translated to film: Gone Baby Gone (which Ben Affleck directed and his brother Casey Affleck starred in), Shutter Island, Mystic River, and The Drop. Live by Night looks no different. Lehane really knows how to capture Boston, Massachusetts.

Live by Night also stars Chris Sullivan, Anthony Michael Hall, Brendan Gleeson, Titus Welliver, Chris Messina, Chris Cooper, Max Casella, Derek Mears, J.D. Evermore, and Robert Glenister.
