AMC orders Low Winter Sun. The AMC TV Channel has ordered a new TV series entitled Low Winter Sun starring Mark Strong and Lennie James. The order is for ten episodes of the series and will be a co-production between Endemol Studios and AMC Studios. AMC’s Low Winter Sun “is based on the 2006 British miniseries starring Mark Strong, who is reprising his role in the AMC version…The award-winning British two-part miniseries was written by Simon Donald and produced by Tiger Aspect Prods (an Endemol company).”

On AMC’s pilot episode for Low Winter Sun:

“Endemol and Chris Mundy have produced a beautiful pilot with an incredible cast led by the insanely talented Mark Strong,” said Joel Stillerman, AMC’s EVP Original Programming. “We’re thrilled to be moving forward with this compelling and intense new drama and look forward to returning to Detroit for production on the first season.”

On the plot of Low Winter Sun:

Low Winter Sun is described as a story of murder, deception, revenge and corruption that starts with the murder of a cop by fellow Detroit detective Frank Agnew (Strong). Seemingly the perfect crime, in reality the murder activates forces that will forever alter that detective’s life and pull him into the heart of the city’s underworld.
