The Mao’s Last Dance Movie Trailer has premiered. Mao’s Last Dance (2010) is directed by Bruce Beresford and stars Chi Cao,  Bruce Greenwood, Kyle Maclachlan, Joan Chen, and Amanda Schull. Based on the best selling autobiography,  Mao’s Last Dance tells the “true story of renowned ballet dancer Li Cunxin’s journey from an impoverished life in rural China to true stardom on the international stage. The film compellingly captures the struggles, sacrifices and triumphs, as well as the intoxicating effects of first love and celebrity amid the pain of exile.” I did not think much of this film when it arrived in my in-box until I watched the movie trailer. I’m impressed. Now I see why people have such a love affair with ballet. I did not realize how athletic ballet performers had to be. Too bad the film is not opening wide but thank god I live near an art house theater. Mao’s Last Dance opens in limited release on August 20, 2010.
