Martyrs’ Remake to be written by Mark L. Smith

A remake of Martyrs is currently being written by Mark L. Smith. Martyrs is a French horror directed by Pascal Laugier and starring Morjana Alaoui and Mylène Jampanoï. In my opinion, Martyrs was the best horror film released in 2009. From an interview held with Mark L. Smith

He also reveals that he wrote the current draft of “Martyrs… a remake of the French horror film that I wrote for Wyck Godfrey (Temple/Hill) who’s producing the Twilight films among others.

My first question is: How the hell do you remake Martyrs? How do you remake THIS? The last twenty minutes of the film will have to be altered and completely changed. There is no way that brutality gets on an American screen. On unrated American DVD and Blu-ray sure – thank Christ – but not in a national cineplex. If it could be viewed anywhere it would be on the art house circuit. We will have to endure a remake of Let the Right One In soon so the news of this should be of no great surprise except for the material housed within the film. The material in this film will be hard for American audiences to swallow. Good luck Mr. Smith.
