MARVEL ANIME: Avengers Confidential (2014): Movie News & Trailer

The Punisher Avengers Confidential: Black Widow & Punisher

Latest Movie News and Trailer from Marvel and Madhouse Studios. Marvel Anime, a brand that represents the collaboration of Marvel Studios, Madhouse animation, and Sony Pictures Entertainment (Japan), continues its line of anime adapted Marvel properties with Avengers Confidential: Black Widow & Punisher. That collaboration began with a collection of four TV series (Iron Man, Wolverine, X-Men, and Blade), adapted for Japanese audiences, and now includes direct to disc productions. Together with Iron Man: Rise of the Technovore (released April 16, 2013, ahead of Iron Man 3‘s theatrical launch), this would be the second direct to disc release, from Marvel Anime, and the second to feature the Punisher.

Avengers Confidential: Black Widow & Punisher plot synopsis:

When The Punisher takes out a black market weapons dealer with stolen S.H.I.E.L.D. tech, he inadvertently stumbles upon a much larger terror plot under investigation by Black Widow, agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. Detained by the clandestine law enforcement organization, Nick Fury offers the Punisher his freedom in exchange for one mission; To work with Black Widow and stop the terrorist group known as LEVIATHAN.

From the title, I assume the Marvel Anime team has a series of spin-off / one-shot titles, centered on or anchored by the Avengers, in mind. At the very least, it demonstrates that Marvel intends to continue rolling out animated projects ahead of their tent-pole theatrical releases. Well, ahead of the major Summer releases, anyway.

About the production:

The film is produced by SH DTV AC BW&P Partners, another partnering of Marvel Entertainment with Sony Pictures Entertainment Japan and Madhouse, following up on the Marvel Anime series. The film will be released in North America on Blu-ray, DVD and digital on March 25, 2014 with a PG-13 rating.

The discs will have two featurettes, “Espionage and Punishment” and “The Vigilante Vs. The Spy” while the Blu-ray will have an additional bonus, the Conceptual Art Gallery. “Espionage” shows the adaptation of the characters to anime and a making of” the film including early concept art and storyboards. While, “The Vigilante Vs. The Spy” profiles the two staring characters, Frank Castle (The Punisher) and Natasha Romanoff (Black Widow).

Avengers Confidential: Black Widow & Punisher was directed by Kenichi Shimizu, written by Mitsutaka Hirota (from a story by Marjorie Liu), and stars Jennifer Carpenter, as Black Widow, and Brian Bloom, as the Punisher.  It will be available on DVD/Blu-ray March 25, 2014.
