MINIONS May Become the 2nd Highest Grossing Animated Film in History

Minions got money

Minions has become third highest grossing animated film. The world just can’t get enough Minions. The little yellow critters, alongside Frozen, are fixture in today’s pop culture and their note-worthiness has just increased.

The Despicable Me spin-off surpassed Disney’s The Lion King this past weekend to become the third highest grossing animated film of all-time with a worldwide total of $989.4 million, while Disney’s 1994 film made $987.5 million. It also went on to surpass movies like Pixar’s Finding Nemo and Despicable Me 2. Minions is still under Pixar’s Toy Story 3 and Disney’s Frozen, whom made $1.06 billion and $1.27 billion respectively.

Minions’ run in theaters all over the world is not over. On September 13, 2015, the movie will open in its final major destination, China. At that point, it’s safe to say that it will also become the third animated feature ever to earn $1 billion at the box-office and it has a very good chance to win second place. Could Minions beat Frozen and when the ultimate crown?

We’ll just have to wait and see if China loves Minions as much as everyone else in the world seems to when it hits their theaters in the next few weeks.
