A Monster Calls Trailer 2

The third movie trailer for A Monster Calls (2016) has been released for the J.A. Bayona directed film. “Life is in the eyes. Life is always in the eyes.” A bullied teen is a standard plot point in TV shows and films where the setting is middle school and high school. Dealing with that and a potentially dying or dead mother (Felicity Jones) either caused Conor O’Malley’s mind to break (a nice twist if that is in fact what happened) or to seek out someone or something that could understand or help him. That seems to be the point in which Liam Neeson‘s tree monster enters the picture.

I wonder if a split personality plot-line will surface between Conor and the tree monster (conveniently kept out of the plot synopsis for this film). That would interesting to watch. When watching the first trailer for the film, these questions didn’t occur to me.  A Monster Calls may have more depth than I initially thought.

A Monster Calls‘ plot synopsis: based on the novel by Patrick Ness,”the movie follows a 12-year-old Conor O’Malley (newcomer Lewis MacDougall) who attempts to deal with the illness of his mother (Felicity Jones) illness and the bullying of his classmates by escaping into a fantastical world of monsters and fairy tales that explore courage, loss, and faith.”
