Hugo Weaving Signs On To The Cast Of Mortal Engines
Before playing Elrond in the epic fantasy series, Weaving made a name for himself as the coldly sinister Agent Smith in The Matrix, reprising the role for the two sequels. Since then, he has appeared in numerous science fiction and comic-based properties, playing the titular V in V for Vendetta, lending his voice as Megatron in Michael Bay‘s Transformers series, and portraying the Red Skull in Captain America: The First Avenger.
It is unknown what role he will play in the planned Philip Reeve novel adaptation, but he is set to join a cast that includes the likes of Robbie Sheehan, Ronan Raferty, and Hera Hilmar. Coincidentally, the project will also reunite Weaving with Rings director Peter Jackson.
Per Comingsoon.net, the source of this story:
Jackson and Walsh optioned the rights to Mortal Engines from Scholastic several years ago. They’ve co-written the screenplay with collaborator Philippa Boyens (The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit trilogies). The film is based on the award-winning book series from author Philip Reeve and will be directed by Christian Rivers. Rivers has worked with Jackson for over two decades as a story board artist, on visual effects and as a Splinter Unit Director on The Hobbit trilogy.
