Simon McQuoid May Direct Mortal Kombat Reboot Film

We haven’t heard much about the state of the new Mortal Kombat film since it’s announcement in 2010. New Line Cinema seems to have found a new director to take the film in the right direction. Australian director Simon McQuoid is in talks to helm the film adaptation.

According to Variety, they have reported that Simon McQuoid is in talks to direct the new Mortal Kombat film. So it seems like New Line is moving forward with the film reboot. The Australian director is no stranger to video games as he has directed some high profile commercials for Playstation and the Halo franchise. This is certainly a huge leg up for McQuoid since he knows a thing or two on video games. The last film, Mortal Kombat: Annihilation, didn’t do so well in the box office so here’s hoping that this new one does well.

Director James Wan is still attached to the film as a producer, with Greg Russo writing a new draft on the screenplay. With the latest Mortal Kombat game already such a huge hit, it’s no wonder the studio is so confident that the film may become a blockbuster hit. Are you guys excited to see a new adaptation of the game?
