The winners for the 2010 National Film Awards have been announced. The 57th National Film Awards are “the most prominent film award ceremony in India. Established in 1954, it is administrated by the Indian government’s Directorate of Film Festivals since 1973…Declared for films produced in the previous year across the country, they hold the distinction of awarding merit to the best of Indian cinema  overall, as well as presenting awards for the best films in each region and language of the country. Due to the national scale of the National Film Awards, it is considered to be the equivalent of the American Academy Awards.” The award winners for the 2010 National Film Awards are listed below.

Best Actor: Amitabh Bachchan for Paa
Best Actress: Ananya Chatterjee for her role in Abahoman.
Best Director : Rituparno Ghosh for his Bengali film Abahoman.
Best Movie on National Integration: Delhi 6
Best Movie with Wholesome Entertainment: 3 Idiots
Best Film : Kutty Srank
Best film on social issues: Well Done Abba
Best Camerawork: Anjali Shukla.
Best Sound Engineer: Resul Pookutty
Best Supporting role (Male): Farooq Sheikh for the film Lahore
Best Supporting role (Female): Arundhati Naag for the film Paa
Best Playback singer (Male): Rupam Islam for Mahanagar
Best Playback singer (Female): Niranjana Sarkar (Housefull)
Best Music: Amit Trivedi for Dev D
Best lyrics: Swananand Kirkire for the film 3 Idiots
Best Child Film : Putaani Party (Kannada) & Keshu (Malayalam)
Best Child actor: Jiva and Anba Karasu
Best Background Music score: Ilayaraja for Pazhassi Raja
Best Choreography: K Shivashankar for film Magadheera
