New Mutants Casts Anya Taylor-Joy and Maisie Williams

The rumors are finally put to rest as New Mutants has officially added Anya Taylor-Joy and Maisie Williams to join the cast of the upcoming X-Men film. Josh Boone’s new film will have both Anya and Maisie playing the roles of Magik and Wolfsbane, exactly as speculated in reports.

The news first broke on The Hollywood Reporter when they revealed that Anya Taylor-Joy and Maisie Williams were officially cast in the upcoming X-Men spin-off New Mutants. Anya will be playing magic-wielding mutant Magik while Maisie would portray werewolf mutant Wolfsbane. Other items revealed were the fact that the other team members would includee Danielle Moonstar, Sunspot, Cannonball, and Warlock. Apparently, the studio is looking for a racially-diverse cast to fill in those roles, especially a Native American actress for Moonster and a Brazilian actor for Sunspot.

The latest report also added that even though both of these actresses’ names have been going around since early last year, negotiations only started after the studio greenlit the film earlier this year. Other rumored castings like the return of James McAvoy as Professor Xavier and Nat Wolff as Cannonball are getting debunked. Production for New Mutants is expected to begin in July, so hopefully we’ll hear more casting news in the coming months. We don’t know much about the plot of the film, but it’s been expected to follow the Demon Bear Saga.
