Now In-theater March 23, 2018

The motion pictures now in-theater are from various Hollywood and independent movie studios. Some of the films are in wide release (600 screens or more in the United States and Canada) and some are in limited release (a motion picture that is playing in a select few theaters across the country [typically in cities such as New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco]).

Weekend Impressions

This weekend is sort of a toss up between the old versus the new. That being said, I believe that Black Panther will narrowly bet out Pacific Rim Uprising. If Star Wars: The Last Jedi had been received by critics and fans better, John Boyega‘s fans would have buoyed the Pacific Rim 2 above Black Panther this weekend. Since that is not the case, I don’t believe Pacific Rim 2 will bet Black Panther. It will be extremely close but Pacific Rim 2 will not get the cigar.

Black Panther will be the Number One at the box office over the weekend.

Pacific Rim Uprising will be Second at the box office over the weekend.

Sherlock Gnomes will be Third at the box. Sherlock Gnomes looks like a generic animated film that may or may not appeal to a sub-group of family film lovers or animated film enthusiasts. It is a new animated film, however, those it will find an audience this weekend.

Tomb Raider will be Fourth at the box office this weekend. Tomb Raider will endure a sharp drop in theater receipts this weekend. Good word of mouth would have kept the film near the top of the Top Five for a second week in a row but with mixed reviews, at or near what the film earned last weekend is not attainable.

I Can Only Imagine will be Fifth at the box office this weekend. It’s a holdover but I don’t believe Midnight Sun is strong enough to open ahead of I Can Only Imagine. This will be the last weekend in which I Can Only Imagine is in the Top Five at the box office.
