Weekend Impressions:

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story will be Number One at the box office this weekend for the second weekend in a row. There is a major family film (Sing) opening very wide this weekend along with two A-list starring adventure films (Passengers and Assassin’s Creed). None will dethrone Rogue One. Its too big, its a holiday weekend, and people are going to want to see the film for a second or third time. There will be a steep drop in attendance, that can’t be helped, but the drop off will not be large enough for a new entry to gain the top spot this weekend. Sing will be Second. All of the families that made Moana a success will drift over and make Sing one as well. Passengers will open in Third. Passengers is a high-end, sci-fi date movie with two comely leads. Couples, hopeful couples, and sci-fi fans (who have already seen Rogue One) will go see Passengers. Assassin’s Creed will open in Fourth. Assassin’s Creed may be one of the best received (by film critics) video game adaptation film in recent years. That won’t be lost on its box office receipts this weekend. Moana will round out the Top Five at the United States box office for this weekend. This will be the last weekend in which Moana is in the Top Five at the Unites States box office.
