The motion pictures now in-theater are from various Hollywood and independent movie studios. Some of the films are in wide release (600 screens or more in the United States and Canada) and some are in limited release (a motion picture that is playing in a select few theaters across the country [typically in cities such as New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco]).

Weekend Impressions

Justice League will be Number One at the box office this weekend but Coco will give it a good run for its money and it shouldn’t even be close. The “closeness” speaks to the lack of quality in and reception for Justice League and the fact that Coco is a colorful kids film powered by Pixar buttressed by the advertising muscle of Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures.

Justice League is already projected at having a loss of $50-100 Million. This weekend will not help with that loss, even with a lack of other new tent-pole being released.

Giving Justice League the benefit of the doubt and a decent hold from last weekend, Coco should open in Second Place at the box office this weekend.

Wonder will be Third at the box office this weekend. Wonder performed very well last weekend and I have no doubt it will do so again.

Thor: Ragnarok will be Fourth at the box office this weekend. Thor: Ragnarok will also be the envy of Justice League at the box office this weekend. Thor: Ragnarok has been holding far better than Justice League will at the box office (unless the film grows magical legs). This will be the fourth week of release for Thor: Ragnarok and it will still be in the Top Five at the box office.

Murder on the Orient Express will be Fifth this weekend at the box office for the second week in a row. Murder on the Orient Express has been distinctly benefiting from a lack of competition at the box office and will continue to do so this weekend.
