Andrew Finch‘s Others Will Follow (2017) short film stars Bruce Greenwood, Winston Titus Tao, Erica Sabol, John Redlinger, and Damian Chey. Others Will Follow‘s plot synopsis: based on the NASA Apollo 11 contingency speech written for United States President Richard Nixon, “The lone survivor of the first mission to Mars uses his last moments to pass the torch of inspiration.”

Andrew Finch did a masterful job creating this short film. The best moment of the short film is when the Astronaut (Winston Titus Tao) realizes that Earth will think he hasn’t made it to the surface of Mars and takes direct action to make sure that they do. The music and sequencing of actions during that moment are excellent.

I have watched five mission to mars on-screen presentations and read one: The Martian (the film and the book), Mission to Mars, The Last Days on Mars, Missions, and Mars. Others Will Follow is the second best that I have seen, second only to The Martian.

In a short amount of time, because of the back-story in Others Will Follow and the voice-over by Bruce Greenwood,  the viewer cares about the sole-survivor astronaut, his doom, and his plight.
