Netflix‘s Ozark: Season 1: Holiday Teaser TV Show Trailer stars Jason Bateman and Laura Linney. The teaser seems to hint at an ominous series of events that are to come.

Ozark Season 1’s plot synopsis from Netflix:

A financial adviser drags his family from Chicago to the Missouri Ozarks, where he must launder $500 million in five years to appease a drug boss.

The series will feature, via IMDB, Jason Bateman, Laura Linney, Jason Butler Harner, Anthony Collins, Sofia Hublitz, Skylar Gaertner, Christopher James Baker, Carson Holmes, Marc Menchaca, McKinnley Belcher III, Lisa Emery, Kevin L. Johnson, and Michael Tourek.

As a teaser, the trailer doesn’t reveal much about the film’s plot, but the little we can gather appears pretty intense. Sweet images of children playing with loving parents are juxtaposed with shots of blood being scrubbed off floors and bodies being carried away. Although the first half of the trailer seems to take place in a rural area, probably a resort of some kind, the second half introduces an urban city environment where Jason Bateman’s character stands before a corpse in the street. The significance of this, of course, is unrevealed.

If there’s one thing I didn’t like about the trailer, it’s the canned use of “America the Beautiful” to make some vaguely ironic statement about the seemingly perfect family we are seeing and the vague unpleasantness that is apparently to come. It feels very tired and uninspired, particularly after The Purge used the same song to similar effect.

**** We hired Reggie, fulfilled our obligations to him, and he quit in the middle of covering two TV series w/ no notice and no explanation. He then ignored our emails asking him to complete his coverage (we had no one else to cover those TV shows). He didn't care. We regret hiring him and we regret putting our trust in him. **** An aspiring writer, longtime film junkie, and former UCLARadio.com disc jockey (where I graduated with a BA in Political Science), I've made the jump from penning book reviews and current events editorials for HonorSociety.org to writing movie and TV news and reviews. When I'm not working towards my certificate in Radio and Television/Video Production at Fullerton College, I enjoy reading (horror, science fiction, and historical/political nonfiction are particular favorites), participating in my school's TV and theatre clubs, attending movie screenings, plays, concerts, and other events, and trying to come up with pithy things to say on social media. Believe it or not, there are occasions where I find time to write for my own leisure.
