Pacific Rim: Maelstrom Adds Jing Tian

The Great Wall actress will play a lead role in Pacific Rim: Maelstrom alongside John Boyega, Scott Eastwood, and Cailee Spaeny.

Known primarily for her work in Chinese films like The Warring States, Special ID, and Police Story, Tian has started to crossover to Hollywood productions like Maelstrom as well as the upcoming Kong: Skull Island. Her appearances in these movies will almost certainly open the way to additional roles in American projects.

Although it has been confirmed that Tian will feature heavily in the Pacific Rim sequel, it remains unknown what exactly her role will be in the film:

Pacific Rim 2 will be directed by Steven S. DeKnight (SpartacusMarvel’s Daredevil) based on the world created by Guillermo del Toro and Travis Beacham and from a script by Jurassic World co-writer Derek Connolly. Thomas Tull, Mary Parent, Jon Jashni, and del Toro will produce the action adventure film along with Boyega and Femi Oguns under their Upper Room Productions shingle. Cale Boyter will serve as the film’s executive producer.

The film will be distributed by Universal Pictures around the world with the exception of China.

The original Pacific Rim hit theaters in summer 2013 and grossed $101 million at the domestic box office. It went on to take in over $411 million worldwide. The first one starred Charlie Hunnam, Idris Elba, Rinko Kikuchi, Charlie Day, Robert Kazinsky, Max Martini, and Ron Perlman.
