Showtime‘s Penny Dreadful: Season 2 TV show trailer 3 from the 2015 Television Critics Association Winter Press Tour stars Eva Green, Josh Hartnett, Danny Sapani, Timothy Dalton, and Reeve Carney. Penny Dreadful: Season 2’s plot synopsis: “This season, Vanessa and Ethan form a deeper bond as the group, including Sir Malcolm (Timothy Dalton), Dr. Frankenstein (Harry Treadaway), and Sembene (Danny Sapani), unite to banish the evil forces that threaten to destroy them. Meanwhile, Dorian Gray (Reeve Carney), the Creature (Rory Kinnear) and Brona (Billie Piper) are all waging battles of their own. Patti LuPone will guest star as a mysterious character of great importance in Vanessa’s past. Helen McCrory returns as Evelyn Poole (a.k.a. Madame Kali), the seductive spiritualist who will pose a unique threat to our protagonists this season.”

On the new season:

While the heroes of Penny Dreadful were the “hunters last season, they’re the hunted — there’s a foxhole mentality,” said the Oscar-nominated scribe John Logan. And a lot of that boils down to the expansion of Helen McCrory’s character Evelyn Poole, nee Madame Kali, a big bad witch who hardened African explorer Sir Malcolm (Timothy Dalton) develops a fancy for.

“This season, we embrace witchcraft,” said Logan. “I don’t believe in villains and heroes. You think Evelyn is a villain, but she’s more of an antagonist. She has a noble calling even though it runs counter to Sir Malcolm’s. She might think she’s on the side of the angels, even though she’s on the side of the devils,” said Logan.
