Permission set to feature Rebecca Hall and Dan Stevens. The upcoming romantic comedy from Ball and Chain and Picture Films will star the two as a couple who turn to drastic measures to save their marriage.
Helmed and written by Brian Crano, the movie marks the second time the veteran short director has made a feature-length film, his first and only other one being 2011’s A Bag of Hammers. The fact that he was able to secure Hall, who has previously appeared in Marvel‘s Iron Man 3, and Stevens, a regular on ITV‘s successful Downton Abbey series, for the film is both impressive and suggestive of the script’s quality.
No release date has been set yet, but shooting is already underway in Brooklyn, New York. Rounding out the cast are Gina Gershon, Francois Arnaud, and Jason Sudeikis of The Hangover fame. The plot of Permission is described as follows:
Permission focuses on a couple, Anna (Hall) and Will (Stevens), who were each other’s first every-things: first kiss, first love, first relationship. Now years on, at Anna’s thirtieth birthday party as Will is about to propose, the couple’s best friend stands up and makes a drunken toast, suggesting that as their relationship is so functional, equitable and stable, it’s threatening to their friends and perhaps they should sleep around before their inevitable marriage. The joke lingers and eventually Anna proposes that they try it, as a sexual experiment. As a couple, with complicity, they venture out of the purely monogamous boundaries of their relationship and in so doing are forced to evolve and grow up.
