PIXELS (2015) Movie Trailer 2: Adam Sandler Vs. Donkey Kong

The second trailer for this summer’s Chris Columbus directed Pixels is here, providing much of the same content found in the first trailer.

Pixels Trailer. Chris ColumbusPixels (2015) movie trailer stars Adam Sandler, Kevin James, Josh Gad, Peter Dinklage, and Michelle Monaghan. Pixels plot synopsis “When aliens misinterpret video feeds of classic arcade games as a declaration of war, they attack the Earth in the form of the video games.”

This all-encompassing advert for Pixels (2015) covers the entirety of the film, and doesn’t offer much new or exciting information. A group of former world-renown video game champions has to team up in order to fight the real-life, physical versions found in the games they mastered so well in the 1980s. This means Pac-Man shows up and barrels through the streets, gobbling up anything in his path. Donkey Kong seems to be the big bad, portrayed here as the ultimate, final boss. Peter Dinklage seems to be aping a King of Kong-eseque Billy Mitchell. For some reason, a Smurf appears. Kevin James shoots him, and kids will laugh.

The premise, like most any other movie, seems largely dependent on the execution – if this were a Joe Cornish or Edgar Wright film, for example, this would be a thrilling proposition. As it stands, this seems incredibly streamlined, leaving no room for any subversive comedic writing or visual inventiveness, and more like a fairly forgettable PG time at the movies.

Chris Columbus has a spotty track record. It’s hard to say whether or not Pixels will amount to anything but a mediocre exploration of this premise. The cynic in me has already passed on this movie, but Chris Columbus did give us Home Alone 1, Home Alone 2: Lost in New York, Ms. Doubtfire, and the initial entries of Harry Potter‘s on-screen adventures. If Percy Jackson  & the Olympians: The Lighting Thief (and that terribly long title) is any indication of things to come, however, I think we all know what to expect.

I grew up in Hamburg to a German father and Ecuadorian mother. Obsessive student of film, Hip-Hop, and stand-up comedy. I love the dark dreambox that is the cinema auditorium. I love mountains and the ocean, but am equally exhilarated by the jungle of the city. I hope to one day create something that hits someone in the brain with thunderous effect.
