POLICE STORY: LOCKDOWN (2015) Movie Trailer: Jackie Chan’s Supercop Is Back

Police Story: Lockdown Trailer.  Sheng Ding‘s Police Story: Lockdown (2015) stars Jackie Chan, Ye Liu, and Tian Jing. Police Story: Lockdown‘s plot synopsis: “A man looking for the release of a long-time prisoner takes a police officer, his daughter, and a group of strangers hostage.”

Police Captain Zhong Wen (Jackie Chan) knows all about sacrifice. He’s always been too busy chasing bad guys to be a father to his daughter Miao (Jing Tian). Tonight, he’s seeing her for the first time in years – and meeting her fiance, club owner Wu Jiang (Liu Ye).  But Wu knows Zhong. And his plans for the evening include taking Miao, Zhong, and the entire club hostage. Zhong knows about sacrifice. What will he give up to save his daughter?

For anyone who watched kung-fu movies growing up, Jackie Chan is like the uncle we’ve always wanted. He’s quick-witted, agile, hilarious – and extremely able-bodied. He doesn’t want to hurt anyone, but will defend himself if he has to, all the while making us laugh. Police Story was one of his first break-out films, and has become a go-to classic when discussing tone and action choreography of many films that came after. Hell, even Bad Boys 2 aped the chase through shanty-town homes (badly, one must say).

This entry into the now 6 film franchise (when did this happen??) sees our lovable and familiar action-hero facing a much more serious tone and challenge. His daughter has been kidnapped, and there doesn’t seem to be anything to laugh at here. The action seems hard-hitting and tangible. There’s something awesome about seeing a battle-weary, worn out Jackie Chan resorting to a series of bare knuckle, bone crushing fights for his daughter. How well this turns out will become clear enough in the US come June 5, 2015.

Marco Margaritoff

I grew up in Hamburg to a German father and Ecuadorian mother. Obsessive student of film, Hip-Hop, and stand-up comedy. I love the dark dreambox that is the cinema auditorium. I love mountains and the ocean, but am equally exhilarated by the jungle of the city. I hope to one day create something that hits someone in the brain with thunderous effect.

  • I’m a huge Jackie Chan fan so it’s great to see him returning to the movies we know and love. I’m not sure if we’ll ever see Jackie Chan the way he was when he was young but it’s great to see his characters maturing.

  • Fully agreed – I’m always excited at the notion of Jackie Chan making new action movies. Whether they’ll ever reach peak-Chan is unlikely, but thankfully he’s made so many great kung-fu films we can always return to.
